G-5: Incorporating Flash Tools in an Online Anatomy & Physiology Course
Detailed Description:Salt Lake Community College’s online Anatomy and Physiology course incorporates impressive Flash modules that describe and display the different organs, organ systems, and physiologic principles that students must know to successfully complete the class. These Flash modules are incorporated in lecture notes, as well as in assignments and quizzes. See how leveraging Flash applets helps to enrich learning for students in this important introductory course.
Presentation Format:Showcase
Topic:Incorporating innovative tools: breakthrough technologies and WebCT
Target Audience:Course Designers, Faculty and Other Instructors, E-learning Managers, K-12 Educational Staff
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:As the medical sciences and ancillary healthcare-related fields become increasingly complex, so too does the education and preparation of those who desire to specialize in them. Human Anatomy and Physiology is, in most cases, one of the initial courses students must take to adequately prepare for entry into their chosen professions. And, with recent advances in telecommunications and Internet technologies, distance education is inreasingly becoming a standard in curriculum implementation. Consequently, a well-designed course, incorporating innovative tools such as flash presentations that are very small in size, yet contain impressive graphics display, is imperative. I have designed a WebCT Anatomy and Physiology course that integrates impressive flash files within the lecture notes, the assignments and quizzes, seamlessly. It is my belief that teaching an image-rich/graphics-intensive course, such as Human Anatomy, online, is not possible without incorporating a rich multimedia tool that a flash presentation in WebCT can provide.
